Love this machine! I've lost 8lbs in 2 weeks riding 4 hrs a week off and on WITHOUT
dieting!! It really does speed up your metabolism! No noise whatsover( I had read reviews before assembly so I knew not to overtighten leg bolts) about 2 1/2 hrs to put together, seemed daunting, but went smoothly except for line-up on one leg bolt.
finally got it to catch 40 min later!! Whewww!! Despite that,LOVE THIS MACHINE!! I find console to be accurate for time and calorie burn readings.
Signed, 45M 5-10 NOW 187lbs!! Yeah Schwinn!! Great job! TEN MORE LBS TO GO....

I bought this elliptical from a local department store in January of 2009. To date, I have lost 15 pounds using this 3-6 times a week. In terms of durability, this thing is amazing for the price. I used to have a gym membership and was skeptical about whether this would measure up to the Precors I loved. Not only is it just as sturdy (I'm a female, about 5'5, 150 lbs,) it takes up significantly less floor space. I keep mine in the sun room in my apartment (the size of a normal balcony/porch in most apartments) and I still have space left over for my ironing board. The ride is very, very smooth and the screen is user-friendly. The arms are positioned in such a way that, for me, I find it easy to use the skiing arms, swing my arms by my side, or hold onto the stationary bars depending on my mood without any interference. The cup/bottle holder is another plus.
While the cons of this machine are few and far between, they may be of concern to others, so I'll mention them. From what I can see, the heart rate sensors are not that accurate. I use a Polar heart rate monitor while working out and the two never display similar heart rate readings. Additionally, if you love the crossramp action on Precors, you should be aware before buying that this machine does not have that feature, although I believe there are higher end Schwinn models that do.
The only major flaw in this product is the noise. This is the reason for my 4-instead-of-5 star review. I bought my elliptical already put together, as it was a floor model. Therefore, I cannot comment on whether it was tightened too much, etc. It will make random, clicking, squeaking and rubbing noises at any given point. This is a non-issue for me as I wear an Ipod while exercising, and none of the noises are louder enough to be heard over my earphones. I just figured I should let others know that this may be an annoyance if you plan on working out while watching TV, talking on the phone, etc.
Overall, however, I feel like this is an extraordinary value for the money and I highly recommend it.

Works very well. I did buy and use the white lithium grease as others suggested. Squeaked at first. So I just put more of that grease in the handle joints and it fixed it right up.

After much research it was decided that this was to be the birthday present for my wife (no, I wasn't sending her a message, she asked for one.)
I'm no exercise guru but this elliptical feels right. It is sturdy, smooth, and fairly compact. The size was important as it is in our bedroom. It fits nicely in a previously open area, and isn't an eye sore.
Assembly was just under 2 hours with both of us. Instructions were excellent, and my biggest complaint is that Schwinn provided no spare parts, so I ended up 1 washer short somehow. No big deal.
My only other complaint is that the electrical cord is really short, so it barely reaches the outlet - that was some poor planning.
Completely satisfied with the purchase and I'd recommend to anyone searching for a fair priced elliptical that should last quite a long time.
